Welding Shipyards Tanker Photographs
Norfolk, Virginia, USA

Photographs by the late Thomas Fred Wright Jr. (Shipfitter)

All photographs on this site were taken by the late Thomas Fred Wright Jr.  In the 1940's and early 50's he was a shipfitter at Welding Shipyards Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia.  He was an avid amateur photographer and his photos here are proof that he was very proud to have taken a part in the building of what was then the largest oil tankers ever built.  Photographs exhibited here include the following ships:

Bulkoceanic 1949 6

Missing here is the Bulkpetro launched in 1948.  If he took any photos of it, they have not survived.  The Danginn was not a tanker, but a 191 foot yacht built for the shipyard's owner, Daniel K. Ludwig.
